HIAD is a repository of hydrogen-related unwanted events. The data were obtained from primary or secondary sources (news, inspection reports from public institutions, other public databases, scientific articles, etc.). A traceable link to the original sources is provided, as far as possible.
HIAD collection of events is a service provided by JRC to safety experts, educators, students and technologists active in the field of hydrogen. It is not intended to serve as an instrument for passing judgement on individual companies or countries associated with an accident. A blame culture surrounding the database would greatly reduce the sharing of information. Moreover, in absence of benchmarks, it cannot be used to compare hydrogen technologies with other technologies.
HIAD events are reviewed and validated by JRC experts before entering the database. However, it is critical to note that events’ quality relies in first instance on the quality of their primary or secondary sources.
Detailed information and guidelines have been developed to help users to properly use HIAD data.
HIAD has been evolving over time, looking at improving the quality and the comprehensiveness of the database. The updates and upgrades that took place on HIAD over its development have been recorded and are described in detail.
