Description

A liquid hydrogen tanker was travelling on a highway, when it overturned. The product remained secure within the trailer and there was no release to atmosphere during the accident.
During the clean-up operations, however, the pressure within the damaged trailer rose to 17 psig (2.3 bara). It was decided to perform a manual vent of the hydrogen, to bring back the pressure to 1 psig (11 bara), before allowing the cranes to upright the trailer. Approximately 2000 standard cubic feet (5 kg) of hydrogen gas were released into the atmosphere.
